How to record replays manually
It has emerged there are console commands which enable us to record our own Heroes of Newerth replays manually. We have tested these commands and they do indeed work – the quality is remarkable and we recommend their use however there is no interface, it is literally just your screen and the action. Here’s how to do it:
When you’re in a game go into the console (Ctrl-F8; same to exit) and type “replayrecordstart <filename>” (filename can be anything, for example replay1.rep)
Once you’re done recording type “replayrecordstop”. It saves the replay into your user files folder, under linux it’s ~/.Heroes of Newerth/game/replays. Under windows it puts them in ‘Application Data’ or ‘My Documents’, so you have to move the replay file into your root game folder where the HoN executable file is (hon.exe or hon-x86).
After that, to play the replay you have to go into a practice game and type into the console “startreplay <filename>”.
Acknowledgments to zdd on this one. We hope you capture all of your epic triple kills from now on!
thanks!
It only works on Practice mode because if you record it on online games, your replay will not function properly due to maphack protection (because the server doesn’t send the location of enemy heroes to you when you can’t see them)
can anyone verify or disagree with what anonymous said? i don’t know whether this works or not.
To sam: There’s a thread about this in HoN forum…

“This only works in practice, not in a real game.”
Hope that’s enough for confirmation.
Has anyone tried this as a spectator?
Can you use this in a real game just to get your point of view anyways?
what about mac?
So, you can’t record Online games at all, or do you just see your own Team? please reply.
I tried this on a practice game and it started fine, but when I wanted it to end I typed “replayrecordstop” and nothing happened. The replays didn’t show in my replays folder either. Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?
@bob.
Are you using Microsoft or Linux?
Well, now you can easily download replays right from the “Match Stats” so I suppose this question has no point any more.
