During the early game, try to be aggressive with your stalk because it is quite useful especially if you do have Ring of the Teacher.
If not, stay back, focus on last hitting and denying to get that level advantage.
If you solo, try to focus on denying and then last hitting at tower to be very careful and survive. Spam stalk when you can.
MID GAME:
1x Abyssal Skull
1x Steamboots (Str)
2x Soulscream Ring
If you did better:
1x Mighty Blade
During this portion of the game, go ahead and try ganking people as much as you can.
Getting money is key especially in this portion of the game if you want to dominate during the rest game.
Finish your Hack as fast as you can and continue ganking and pushing towers.
As soon as your Hack and Slash is finished, you’ll be super fast which means easier to chase.
LATE GAME:
1x Abyssal Skull
1x Steamboots (Str)
1x Hack and Slash
1x Ruined Axe
1x Savage Mace
1x Demonic Breastplate
At the late stages of the game, try pushing as hard as you can and dominate till the end.
Once you get your ruined axe, or any of the other last 3 items, the game should be over, but I like giving more options. =]
Items to Concider (Situational):
Shrunken Head

Very useful in cases of nukers or strong spells cast mostly against you.
Brutalizer

In cases of hard hitters or really annoying stunners or casters, very useful item to stun as much as you can.
Worst Enemies:

Bound Eye (Or other reveal invis items)
Yes, your true enemy. You need to kill the bearer of this item as fast as you can! If you cannot spam your stalk, there’s not much of a way to chase or gank!

Scout
His wards can see you. Even when you use stalk, very hard to kill because he has invis too!

Pollywog Priest
His morph and bindings rape you. If you get caught in these, the other team can wack you to death, easily.

Magmus
Magmus has his aoe stun and his eruption which can kill you even if you go invis.
Thanks for your guide. But which ally heroes do you recommend for a great combo ?
Great allies would be Heroes with lotsa DMG, like Legionnaire or Hammerstorm. As well as every Hero that got some Stun longer than 1.5 secs. You will be even able to kill some heroes at the beginn of the Game, if you can bring them enought close to your Tower and some DMG Dealing Hero is with you/hidding in the forest and waiting for your Barrel Roll (For the Stun). Basically —-> Everything with Lotsa DMG Dealing or Stun iver 1.5+ secs is a good ally for Comboing
Might I add some changes… madmans pretty easy but… If there were any changes I’d say ALWAYS (ESPECIALLY vs good players) ALWAYS ALWAYS wait to pick your first skill incase they trilane or come from behind with like swiftblade or something. In case that happens, go stealth of course. but in any other case, always go barrel roll at 1. Cmon, why not get first blood?
Items: If you do not go mana items first, do not get ulti at 6. you won’t have the mana for it. all you need to do is run around anyway, no one will escape you if you position yourself right. Id say open with teacher ring and a potion, then get regen ring at outpost(350 one not healthtube). MADMAN NEEDS LOTS AND LOTS OF MANA. HELLFLOWER MADMAN IS BY FAR THE BEST OPENER(maybe skull before). Think about it. stalk allows you to be anywhere whenever you want. Thats gives you enough mana to use all your spells at all times. A steady stun every 9 seconds no matter where anyone is at any time. You can just stealth in and out. And the silence RAPES. … It helps you farm too. Do not get steamboots, enhanced marchers ALL THE WAY. Get a bracer or +6 str gloves or whatever if you need hp.
wait… is the skill build you reccomended for solo or 5v5? I really want to get good at Madman and spamming his Stalk is great but in a 5v5 match it would take too long to get ring, you would havr to get pickeled brain first and that wouldnt help much, actually you couldn’t even afford brain in 5v5. It just seems like an expensive tactic. Aswell as the fact that since the ring is AOE and is great for teamates that I should not get it in 1v1? Some answers please…
Pretty good guide, however I’d put in a shield breaker somewhere, and if you don’t use a ring of teacher I’d recommend you get whispering helm instead. Like what other people say, hack and slash is not good value. Do not get hack and slash. Your brutalizer ,stalk and barrel roll will do the job fine of catching up. A shield breaker is a much better choice instead of H&S.
I’d suggest Elder Parasite as well because the Abyssal Skull is an aura life leech. Elder Parasite adds even more health steal in addition to the Abyssal Skull and can go Crazed for an additional speed DPS buff like the Madman ultimate. Super fast DPS combo it will be
hmm.. wouldn’t nullfire b good on him? i mean, it benefits from a fast attack speed madman has, and with stun -> burn mana would b good against nuker/scout/bane etc (need mana for escape skills), plus purge..

ring of the teacher is useful since it gives him mana regen and some armor. Its useful since it’ll help to stalk as long as you use it moderately and yeah, better even getting vlads. However, if your going for elder parasite, try getting avatar or linken’s sphere and then its gg

Ulti is worthless at early game. Get level1 ulti at level 10 and level2 ulti at level 11. Second thing that was annoying me, was brutalizer. Imo mkb (savage mace) is much better coz mini stun dosent have cd. With brutalizer u have 3s cd in stun.
accursed is an awesome hero to be laning with cos he casts fireshield and u stalk and run at the enemies doing a heap of damage. and u can spam this tonnes so u can ussually get a kill early game
I agree with that dude couple on top of me his ulti lvl 1 is totally useless barely notiseable, alsoif u wanna b good mid game dps max ur crit. I noe it sounds ridiculous but it works.
It is not ridiculus critical at least lvl 1 is great.. + at early game i leave barrel roll to a max of 2 lvl because your mp is so low.. i play this hero with all his abilities except ulti because in early game you wont be needing to gang so much rather than farm and even if you gang your ulti lvl 1 wont make a big difference. thats my oppinion

You say savage mace instead of brutilizer….I say BOTH, brutilizer does have a cooldown, but stuns for almost as long as barrel roll, combined with the ministun of savage mace and there should pretty much be no casting goin down.
also why do all of you get stats before gash????
a soulscream ring is just as good as about 3-4 levels in stats….so get one and then a lvl 4 gash for easy creep finishes and you should be able to farm good

lol whats with all the pushing? MADMAN IS NOT A PUSHER. and i think shieldbreaker should definitely be ur priority, u should not get a savage mace before shieldbreaker and same with ruined axe that is unless ur gonna farm for the whole game which in this case the guide dosent tell u to do so. hack n slash would not work anymore with shieldbreaker since it got changed to frostburn(they dont stack). and also u should get whispering helm and then symbol of rage.
im just gonna say couple of things… why the hell would you guys level up stalk first? its worthless to get up.. a extra 10 damage for each level and 2 second cd? this is my level up

elder parasite? have you played madman? he does not need that at ALL he just needs savage mace for the attack speed and if your not getting fed fast enough even try for a alchemist’s bones for when your farming in jungle for the extra 100 gold per 80seconds or what ever the cd is
