Heroes of Newerth open beta ?

This last week S2 games announced that Heroes of Newerth will be moving to the next stage of testing very soon.
So with Open beta around the corner and already over 4.2 million… yes million games played, any doubts about the future success of HoN start to dwindle. Can anything can stop this monster ?

Well… yes,

Starcraft 2 :  Release date first half of 2010.

Diablo III : Release date 2010, quarter unknown.

League of Legends : In closed beta.

Along with others…

So what will happen to our community when these, unquestionably bandit title’s get released?
We are already seeing growth of the LoL community, regardless of the fact the majority of them are under the age of 12 and couldn’t tell the difference between a good RTS and their elbow. But that’s just my personal opinion.
The hardcore Starcraft and Diablo fans among the HoN community will be beyond any doubt buying and exclusively playing their respective titles, unless they turn out to be somewhat of a blunder.

Where does your loyalty stand, will you be playing playing Heroes of Newerth in a years time ?

Farming Account Statistics

We have discovered it is possible to increase your Heroes of Newerth account statistics such as KDA ratio and PSR using multiple accounts. If you have spare beta keys you can create new accounts to use on the HoN servers; you can also run multiple instances of HoN. Therefore, make a private game with your main account and use a subsidiary account in a second instance to join the game and go on the other team. Then start feeding kills to your main account – we have managed to farm about 200 kills in 30 minutes using soulstealer against madman, thinking about what items to buy, what spots on the map to use etc. Sure enough, the unanswered kills get added to your account and your KDA improves.

Although less effective, you can also farm PSR. You need to have many subsidiary accounts and as many instances (or many friends with second accounts) running – and make a team on the enemy of 4 or 5 accounts, against your 1. This will ensure you gain a lot of PSR from the game. You then win the game and your PSR will increase. You can only do this a few times as when your PSR gets too high, it will stop letting you gain any because of the mathematic algorithm involved. Even if you make more and more fresh accounts, a team of 4 1500 players against your 1 will still not let you gain a lot of PSR at all later on.

S2 games have discussed the issue and concluded that for now at least, they will not take action to prevent this activity because players cannot farm PSR very well, and the player’s PSR will not represent how skilled they are. ‘True’ high PSR players will identify quickly that you are not as good as your rating. If you look at people’s statistics profiles, it can be a little obvious when people have farmed K:D ratio. Usually the normal relationship between games played, games won, PSR and KDA gets upset in a way identifiable to others.

What do you think? Should S2 take a stand against stat farming? Or should it be left for those players with no conscience?

Practice mode – new hero for HoN?

We have discovered an as yet unincluded, but playable hero in HoN called Nomad. He isn’t in the main game yet, and according to S2 is not a priority to be included, however you can mess about in practice mode with him. He is a melee, probably legion-allied agility hero and his abilities suggest he is a carry who could be devastating late game.

To use him just start a game in practice mode (create game>server>practice) and click on ‘Test’ when you are in the game. Click on ‘spawner’, then find ‘Hero_Nomad’. Spawn him and you will have full control of him and can use all his skills.

His ultimate is a passive similar to Ursa’s orb effect (from Dota), where damage accumulates over successive hits. He can also take to his ‘sand form’ where he is phased, and deals damage over time to nearby units; however his most impressive and original skill is sun stroke. This is where the victim gets slowed more and more over time the more orders it issues, attacks, spells, items etc. Very nice.

Invite limit reached

Since last night hordes of people wanting to participate in the HoN beta have signed up through the facebook link we posted. As it stands the maximum invite limit was reached. Those of you who managed to get in within the time frame congratulations.

If yours of  still in need of  a key please do not drop your email in the comments, as we have had many people do this and we are unable to provide all of them with invites.

Heroes-Newerth.com still has some keys to give out, but  a very limited supply. For a chance to get hold of an extra invite for your friends, or one for yourself, we are giving out invites to those of you who go to our Forums (<- here) and post a Hero guide under the strategy section. You also have the chance of having your guide displayed on the main site.. Good luck again!
